Our August Supervisor Speaker Series features District 3 Supervisor Chris Lopez. Supervisor Chris Lopez lives in Greenfield, California with his wife Jazmin Lopez, three-year-old son Teo, and their baby girl Inés. He was elected to succeed Supervisor Simon Salinas, representing Monterey County’s Third District, in June of 2018.
Returning to the Salinas Valley after college graduation, Supervisor Lopez approached Supervisor Simon Salinas with an offer he couldn’t refuse, he requested an unpaid internship. After proving his skills invaluable, he was offered a full-time position as Board Aide working with Supervisor Salinas. Soon Supervisor Salinas promoted Lopez to Chief of Staff where he would remain for the next seven and a half years. He was elected to serve on the Board of Supervisors in June of 2018 and took his Oath of Office in January of 2019.
He has served on the boards of Youth Orchestra Salinas, Hartnell College Foundation, the Arts Council for Monterey County, the Redevelopment Oversight Boards of the cities of King City, Greenfield, Soledad, and Gonzales among many others. Supervisor Lopez is passionate about early childhood education, agriculture, safe roads, fair, equitable and accessible housing, and economic development, as well as equitable models of government.
He currently serves on the following commissions amongst others: Natividad Medical Center Board of Trustees, Monterey County Cannabis Committee, Water Resources Agency Joint Boards Leadership Committee, and Monterey County Urban Standing Committee, and Budget Committee. He is also board member of the Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority, Hartnell College Foundation, First 5 Monterey County, South Salinas Valley Broadband Authority, and First Vice Chair of Rural County Representatives of California.
