Membership Luncheon with Sheriff Nieto

Monterey County Business Council is honored to welcome Sheriff/Coroner Tina Nieto as she kicks off our 2026 Membership Luncheons. 

Join us as we get to know our County Sheriff and hear her vision, leadership priorities, and the initiatives shaping the future of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department.

About Sheriff Nieto
Sheriff Nieto began her career with the Los Angeles Police Department, graduating first in her class in academics from the academy. She went on to become the first Latina police captain in the department’s 139-year history, leading hundreds of officers and serving hundreds of thousands of residents.

Before her law enforcement career, Sheriff Nieto served more than a decade in the U.S. Army, attaining the rank of Captain and commanding one of only three military port security companies in the nation. She also served on the Nuclear Weapons Logistic Element, overseeing operations that required top secret clearance.

In 2021, Governor Gavin Newsom appointed Sheriff Nieto to the California State POST Commission, which establishes training and selection standards for law enforcement statewide.

Sheriff Nieto is also active in several philanthropic organizations to include the Elks, the Moose Lodge, The American Legion, and is a Rotarian. Sheriff Nieto lives with her partner of 24 years, and three rescue dogs in Monterey County, and in her free time (what free time?) likes to read sci-fi and binge watch K-dramas.
