First elected to the Assembly in 2018, he previously chaired the Assembly Agriculture Committee and was Vice-Chair of the Latino Legislative Caucus. A lifelong resident of the 29th Assembly District, Rivas began his public service on the San Benito County Board of Supervisors. His early experiences growing up in farmworker housing, with a grandfather who was a labor leader alongside Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, have deeply influenced his commitment to public service and advocacy for underrepresented communities.
